Association of VW 411/412 owners 1987

After the end of production of the VW Type 4, the "coatis" were scrapped by the thousands in the years that followed. They were often robbed of their engines suitable for Porsche and Bulli and then ended up in the shredder. Only a few VW 411/412 survived.

But fans of the VW Type 4 made it their goal to get as many vehicles as possible and founded the association of VW 411-412 owners in Göppingen in 1987.

First as a club, later as an interest group, fans from Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Luxembourg and France came together in addition to the German coati fans.

In early 2006, the association joined Deuvet.

It became a tradition that members of the association and other VW Type 4 owners always met on Ascension Day. These meetings were used for shop talk and an exchange of experiences, but also for the sale of spare parts, which had become very rare.

At the Ascension Day 2022 meeting at the Doktorsee in Rinteln, a general meeting took place at which the previous board, led by Andreas and Ute Mertzbach, resigned after 25 years of work for the association.

At the same time, the decision was made to run the association of VW 411/412 owners as a registered association again in the future in order to have a better legal and financial background and to make the desired international networking easier to achieve.

It was important that the organization of the association with a team of like-minded people and a registered association was spread over several shoulders. A statute, a fee schedule and a founding protocol were drawn up and founding members were sought for the individual areas of responsibility.

The club name "VW411-412 Friends e.V" was quickly found and our creative treasurer designed a new logo.

Since the preparations for the "50 Years of VW 412 Meeting" were being organized at the Classic Days 2022, the founding meeting was held on the Sunday of this event.

The registration of the "e.V." (registered association) took some time. A club account was set up. Our association is finally able to act.

In the meantime, the association has started its work with the organization of the summer meeting, the issue of In4mation No. 83 and the design of the website including Instagram and Facebook presence.

The successful work of the VW411-412 Friends e.V. depends largely on the support and cooperation of the association members. We hope for numerous declarations of membership and for a varied and interesting association life.
