After the end of production of the VW Type 4, the "coatis" were scrapped by the thousands in the years that followed. They were often robbed of their engines suitable for Porsche and Bulli and then ended up in the shredder. Only a few VW 411/412 survived.
But fans of the VW Type 4 made it their goal to get as many vehicles as possible and founded the association of VW 411-412 owners in Göppingen in 1987.
First as a club, later as an interest group, fans from Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Luxembourg and France came together in addition to the German coati fans.
In early 2006, the association joined Deuvet.
It became a tradition that members of the association and other VW Type 4 owners always met on Ascension Day. These meetings were used for shop talk and an exchange of experiences, but also for the sale of spare parts, which had become very rare.
