A total of 37 different colors were offered for the Type 4 over all 6 model years. Only one color (pastel white) remained available for 4 years, 2 colors (deep sea green, silver metallic) remained available for 3 years, 16 colors were available for 2 years and 18 colors were only available in one model year. The metallic tones in particular, which are only available for one year, should therefore be among the absolute rarities (brown metallic, quartz metallic, maya metallic, moss metallic, hellas metallic and red metallic.
*Quartz metallic L99E appears to have only been around for a few weeks in the '71 model year.
